Luxury family holidays in the Mediterranean

We all know keeping the children occupied can be a challenge when travelling. But honestly, who doesn't adore indulgences like a private pool, sumptuous sandy beaches, exhilarating activities and, most importantly, stellar accommodation?

1. For families with young children

For the youngest ones in your group, what could be better than:

  • Soft and inviting lawned gardens

  • Shady spaces to relax and nap

  • A child-friendly pool

  • And perhaps a sandy beach at the end of the garden

At The Thinking Traveller, we've welcomed hundreds of families with infants and young children to our destinations and excel in meeting their unique requirements.

Corsica

Chjar di Luna on Corsica allows you to keep infants safely out of the sun with its lovely and expansive wrap-around deck. For toddlers on the move, the perfectly shaded grounds that surround your private pool beckon. For beach lovers, sandy child-friendly shorelines await; the beaches of Pianottoli are an easy walk from the villa to ensure a quick return should young children need an unexpected change of clothes or nap. Is setting out for a day trip your desire? In that case, may we suggest visiting nearby Bonifacio – a charmingly picturesque town and a must-see for your Corsica stay.

2. For families with children aged 6-12

Keeping high energy children aged 6-12 entertained can feel like a full-time job in itself. With that in mind, we've curated a hand-picked selection of picturesque Mediterranean destinations with luxury villas that come equipped with easy beach access, fabulous pools and plenty of space to run around, play, make noise and much more.

Zakynthos

This idyllic Grecian island is the ultimate location to explore if you have curious kids between six and 12. Excite and entertain youngsters with day trips that allow them to discover fascinating shipwrecks, observe wildlife like dolphins and loggerhead turtles and participate in watersports like snorkelling.

When staying on Zakynthos, we recommend booking Aurora, where your family can enjoy breakfast whilst taking in spellbinding sea views from the welcoming al fresco dining area. In the afternoon, crank up the outdoor sound system and let the kids happily splash around in the inviting and refreshing infinity pool and jacuzzi or enjoy a short 10-minute stroll to the historic town of Agios Nikolaos, where a lovely beach, lively tavernas, a minimarket and boat hire await. By the time evening rolls around, the young ones will be blissfully exhausted, allowing the adults to enjoy a romantic sunset whilst toasting another successful luxury family holiday in Greece.

Sicily

Another fabulous villa to consider when travelling with children in this age group is Casa Luza, where the large lawned garden and private pool offer plenty of space for fun and games. Casa Luza is an excellent option if you're holidaying with another family as it houses up to 12 people in two separate bedroom wings. For a family day out, we recommend taking in the spectacular scenery of the rushing waterfalls and streams of neighbouring Cassibile.

3. For families with independent teenagers

If you're raising a teenager, you know how difficult they can be to please. We're here to help your independent teen unplug from technology and experience the magic of luxury holidays in Mallorca at one of our premier Med villas, conveniently situated within easy walking distance of a beach, cafés, tavernas, watersports facilities and shops.

Corfu

This bright and sunny Greek Island is THE place for active families with teenagers. Whether you spend the day relaxing on its superb beaches, exploring its variety of historic castles and villages, or setting off on a horse-riding adventure, your discerning teenager will never complain of boredom when on Corfu.

If your teen is looking for activities they can do independently, like strolling to the local shops and restaurants, we suggest Kassiopi View as an ideal base. Kassiopi View features an easy walk to the beaches, harbour and shops of Kassiopi town, a breathtaking heatable infinity pool, a barbecue and pizza oven, and all the space your older children need to stretch out and decompress from their high-tech lifestyles.

4. For multigenerational families

In Italy, they like to say la famiglia è la patria del cuore, which translates to home is where the heart is. Make the fabulous Puglia region, with its azure waters, delightfully sunny beaches and bustling food scene, your family's holiday home for a custom-made trip that won't be soon forgotten.

Puglia

For many of us, it's been far too long since we've gathered the extended family together for a lovely Mediterranean holiday. If you will be travelling with a large group, including children of all ages, on your next family holiday we would like to recommend Trulli Andrea, where luxury, versatility and heaps of space reign supreme.

This sprawling property is spread across two immaculately restored sets of trulli (with a third little trullo available should you need even more room to stretch out). Each house boasts its own marvellous sea-salt water pool – many of our guests like to designate one for splashing and horseplay with the children and one for relaxing. When it comes to mealtime, a wood-fired pizza oven, gas barbecue and multiple charming al fresco dining spaces unite the entire family around the dinner table to enjoy an authentic Italian dining experience like no other.
