Inside

accommodation at Vela is laid out over two floors.

The main entrance leads into a welcoming hallway on the first floor. Seven steps up from here is a landing, off which is the first of the five bedrooms, a sea-view double with en-suite shower room and a little balcony.

A few more steps up from the landing one comes to the social hub of the property, a generous open space with high wood-beamed ceilings, light flooring, white walls, and a triptych of glass doors opening out onto a large sea-view terrace. At the centre is around dining table, while to the right is a sunken living area with well-cushioned built-in seating and a fireplace flanked by geometric blue-and-white tiles.

The dining area flows past a bar to the fully equipped kitchen, which feature dark wooden cabinetry and worktops in earthy-toned marble. A glass door opens out onto a terrace.

Heading back to the hallway at the main entrance, a flight of steps leads down to the lower floor, which is home to the remaining bedrooms, each one accessed from a spacious corridor with pink-and-white geometric-tiled walls and parquet flooring. In detail there is:

• the master bedroom, a double with sea views, access to the lower terrace, and an en-suite shower room with double sinks and a large walk-in shower
• a two spacious doubles with sea views and en-suite shower rooms. One also has access to the lower terrace.
• a double-twin with sea views and an en-suite shower room

Each of the en-suite bathrooms is clad in a different hued marble, a winning design detail that serves both to differentiate the various bedrooms and to add interest and vivacity.

Outside

al fresco life at Vela revolves around four main areas where guests can spend time relaxing, swimming, cooking and dining, and gazing out at the enchanting views.

First is the large terrace accessed from the social hub on the first floor of the house. Featuring geometric, green-and-white floor tiles and furnished with plenty of quality sofas and armchairs, this is the ideal spot from which to admire the vistas along the picturesque, time- and element-sculpted coastline of Scopello. It's perfect both for slow morning coffees and convivial evening aperitivi.

Below here, and accessed by two of the lower-floor bedrooms, is well-shaded sea-view terrace with a convivial bar and plenty of stylish seating. This is a delightful spot for gathering together and toasting your good fortune.

A path of railway sleepers and gravel wends its way down through the gardens to a shady lounging gazebo looking out to sea, and then on to the rocky shoreline, where a ladder allows guests to plunge into the beautiful waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea.

A few metres from the main entrance, meanwhile, is the multi-dimensional pool area, which features a large, shady al fresco dining area with outdoor kitchen, and the lovely pool itself, whose decked surrounds and sun loungers offer more of those restful views out to sea.

The gardens surrounding Vela have been left au natural with aromatic coastal maquis, olive trees and a variety of Mediterranean shrubs and plants.

Due to the nature of the property, which includes terraces, low walls and several drops around the grounds, children must be supervised at all times.

Some areas of this property may be overlooked.

The number of steps that must be negotiated to get around this property might make it unsuitable for people with limited mobility.

Boats may moor in the bay, especially in the high season, and the seafront area is public and may be used by other people.

The sea access in front of this property is via rocks and so may not be possible to use if the sea is rough.

The pool has a single depth of 1.4m.
