Travel to and around Puglia

Flights, car hire and travel information

Puglia, the heel of Italy’s boot, is accessible by air, rail, and car, with good connections from across Europe and the rest of Italy. With two main international airports, a modern train network, and scenic road routes, it’s easy to reach towns and villas throughout the region, from Ostuni and Lecce to Alberobello and the Salento coast.

Flying into Puglia

Nearest Airports

Puglia has two main airports:

  • Bari Karol Wojtyła Airport (BRI) – Best for the north and central regions, including Bari, Polignano a Mare, Matera (just across the border in Basilicata), and Alberobello.
  • Brindisi Salento Airport (BDS) – Convenient for southern Puglia, including Lecce, Ostuni, Otranto, and the beaches of the Salento Peninsula.

Both airports offer seasonal direct flights from major European cities, including London, Paris, Amsterdam, Munich, and Zurich. From outside Europe, travelers typically connect via Rome (FCO) or Milan (MXP or LIN).

Flexible Arrivals

For villas with more complex travel logistics, we recommend taking extra care when booking your flights to ensure a smooth and stress-free journey. In some cases, arriving a day early or leaving a day later can help avoid delays or missed connections.

Boat Transfers

Travel effortlessly between islands or directly to your villa by private sea taxi. A refined alternative to crowded ferries and rigid timetables, perfect for those seeking comfort, privacy, and flexibility. Ask your Specialist about sea transfers.

Explore Puglia by Land

Train via Mainland Italy

Puglia is well connected by Italy’s high-speed and regional rail network:

  • From Rome or Naples, trains run to Bari, Brindisi, Lecce, and other towns, with Frecciargento and InterCity services.
  • Trains from Milan, Bologna, or Florence also reach Bari and Lecce, though travel times can be longer (7–9 hours from Milan to Lecce).

Rail is a good option if you're combining Puglia with other Italian regions or prefer not to fly domestically.
