Discover the beautiful coastline and beaches of Paxos

ON THE BEACH IN PAXOS

See our villas on Paxos and Antipaxos >>

Paxos is a great island for anyone who loves a bit of beach life and translucent turquoise waters. The east coast is home to numerous shingle and pebbly coves with easily accessible, family-friendly beaches, while the much more rugged west coast offers dramatic cliffs and more off-the-beaten-track bays requiring a little walking. Here below, is our guide to the very best beaches on Paxos, starting in the north at Lakka and moving clockwise around the island.

Harami and Kanoni
Where: Lakka Bay, north coast.
Description: Harami and Kanoni's shallow turquoise waters make them a favourite with families with young children, while the presence of a small tavern means spending a full day at the beach is eminently possible. The views and colours of the bay are enchanting.
Access: by boat or a short walk along a tree-shaded footpath from Lakka.

Orkos
Where: less than half a mile southeast of Lakka.
Description: transparent blue waters lapping white pebbles at this lovely beach.
Access: easy, by car and a 5-10 minute walk.

Lakkos
Where: on the east coast, about half way between Lakka and Loggos.
Description: a small pebbly bay with enclosed by low white cliffs and pine trees.
Access: easy, by car and a short walk

Monodendri
Where: on the east coast, about 1km north of Loggos.
Description: one of Paxos' more fashionable and largest beaches, Monodendri offer lidos, watersports, a bar and a tavern. With easy road access and parking.
Access: easy, by car and a short walk.

Levrechio
Where: just south of Loggos.
Description: a small pebbly beach with clear deep water that's perfect for those who love a good swim. If you work up an appetite in the water, you can pop in to the excellent little taverna on the beach.
Access: easy, by car and a short walk.

Marmari and Kipos
Where: about 100m south of Levrechio.
Description: two lovely secluded bays right next to each other with pebbles verged by shady trees.
Access: easy, by car and a short walk.

Kipiadi
Where: about 1km south of Loggos.
Description: a long stretch of pebbly beach with transparent waters and a great spot to anchor your boat for a swim.
Access: easy, by car and a short walk.

Kaki Lagada
Where: on the east coast about 1km north of Gaios.
Description: a pebbly beach with shallow waters that is popular with those staying in Gaios town.

Plakes
Where: practically in Gaios, just to the south.

Access: easy, by car and a short walk.

Mongonissi
Where: on the little island at Paxos' southern tip.
Description: Paxos' only sandy beach is popular with families, also thanks to the many facilities, including lidos, watersports and a taverna.
Access: easy, by car.

Galazio
Where: on the west coast, just across the island from Gaios.
Description: a small shingle beach carved out of the cliffs of the west coast. The colour of the water is particularly striking.
Access: only by boat.

Avlaki
Where: on the west coast, just north of Galazio.
Description: a bay that includes the long rocky inlet and reef of Agrilas. At one end is a small pebble beach but most people go for the great swimming and scuba diving.
Access: easy by boat or a quite steep 1km walk.

Eremitis
Where: about one third of the way down the west coast.

Access: by car followed by a steep walk down.

Plani
Where: the northwesternmost point of Paxos, just west of Lakka's lighthouse.
Description:  one of the only beaches on the west coast that is accessible by car. Thanks to its setting, this pebbly beach has a slightly wild feel to it and is a great spot for watching the sun sink into the sea. Not ideal for young children.
Access: easy, by car and a short walk.

Meanwhile, on neighbouring Antipaxos...

A 15-minute sail south from Paxos will take you to the paradisiacal beaches of Antipaxos. Here, you will find Vrika and Voutoumi, two delightful stretches of sand lapped by limpid waters of a pure electric blue. Both beaches have tavernas serving lunch and a day spent on one or both of them is a day well spent indeed!
