Il Tabacchificio is a breathtakingly refurbished icon of 1930s industrial design, an ex-tobacco factory that has been adoringly transformed into awe-inspiring home. Once a hive of activity, the property is now a serene, airy oasis of tranquility and style whose cathedral-like sense of space and peace is rare indeed. The Area
Il Tabacchificio sits just 1km outside the little village of Diso, which itself is just inland from the charming seafront town of Castro with its evocative castle standing majestically on a rocky outcrop above the Adriatic coast of Salento. Both Diso and Castro boast a selection of restaurants, bars and shops, while the latter also has some good lidos and a lively summer atmosphere. Thanks to the cleanliness of its waters and the quality of its lidos, Castro Marina has been awarded a Blue Flag for the last few years. Heading north or south from Castro along the spectacular coast road, you will pass through charming fishing towns and above rocky coves. To the north, about 20km away, is the gorgeous town of Otranto, while to the south, you will soon come to the charming resort town of Leuca, home to beautiful Liberty villas from the early 20th century, a sanctuary to the Virgin Mary, a glamorous marina and an imposing lighthouse, signaling your arrival at the very heel of the Italian boot! Also within easy reach, and highly recommended, is the beautiful baroque town of Lecce (45 minutes drive) and the historic island town of Gallipoli (50 minutes drive). Then there's the myriad of sleepy historic villages that dot the Salento, many of which are worth a visit.

We loved Il Tabacchificio. It is really well restored and maintained. There was plenty of space for big group and we were always comfortable and well cared for. Everyone loved the public spaces - including the pool and tennis and football space. The staff at the house was great, friendly and made us really feel at home.

Il Tabacchificio is simply incredible. You can't imagine how big it really is through pictures. It's just impressive how each detail fits perfectly with everything else. Each room has so such much charm and the exteriors are extremely peaceful.
