NB: A double-twin bedroom has two single beds that can either be joined together to create a double bed or left separate as two single beds.

Inside

accommodation at Da Mare is laid out over a main house on two levels, and two independent guest wings.

The entrance to the main house leads into an airy and generously proportioned open-concept room, where double-height, sloping ceilings with extra-large sky lights create a luminous, tranquil atmosphere. Two walls of sliding glass doors allow the space to flow out onto yin-and-yang terraces on opposite sides of the house, and sea views flood in.

Smooth, grey flooring and raw concrete walls resembling wood cladding provide a gentle backdrop for a centrally positioned dining table with emerald-green velvet chairs, and a pair of curvaceous, modular contemporary sofas. To one side is the well-equipped, minimalist kitchen with a bar area and a door opening into a service kitchen area.

A door to one side of this communal space opens into the main bedroom, a double with parquet flooring, in-built storage, sea views, and a luxuriously finished contemporary bathroom in soft grey marble and featuring a stylish contemporary tub, a separate shower, and double sinks.

A guest WC and laundry room accessed from the living area completes the accommodation on the ground floor of the main house

Stairs lead up from the communal space to a mezzanine gallery with a study area. At one end of the gallery is a double-twin bedroom with a cylindrical ceramic in-room sink, while to the other is a spacious fitness area with a walk-in shower and sink. The bedroom on this level makes use of the upstairs shower and the WC on the ground floor.

The two guest wings are set slightly forward from the main house and are accessed via a wooden boardwalk from the latter. Identical in layout, each one comprises:

• two double-twin bedrooms with wide sliding glass doors opening out onto a decked terrace overlooking the pool area
• a large, shared shower room
• a separate WC
• a sitting-cum-dressing area with single sofa bed

Outside

gazing out to sea, the grounds of Da Mare are a verdant extension of south Corsica’s fertile landscape of scented maquis, olive trees, holm oaks, cypresses, myrtle, arbutus and vibrant yellow mimosa. Sandy areas between the flora evoke the glorious beaches nearby, granite masses show off nature's sculptural prowess, and the atmosphere is at once harmonious and serene.

The living area of the main house opens out via two walls of sliding glass doors onto a pair of well-shaded, decked terraces. Both are set up with dining tables: one looking out to sea and the other occupying a more secluded spot surrounded by leafy greenery.

A wooden boardwalk connects the main house with the guesthouses, whose bedrooms all open out onto a decked terrace overlooking the pool area and the sea.

The decked pool area, where you may well end up spending most of your waking hours, is a dreamy spot, with pampas grasses swaying gently in the breeze, sea views tempting you to stroll down to the coast, and a large wooden pergola offering shade.

During the high season, especially at weekends, you may occasionally hear planes arriving at the nearby Figari airport.
