Inside

accommodation at Don Arcangelo all’Olmo is spread over Il Casale, a handsome villa, and a beautifully restored, equally luxurious guesthouse, Casa all’Olmo.

Access to Il Casale is via an impressive entrance hall with high vaulted ceilings and a decorative water feature. A few steps lead up to a wide corridor, at the end of which is the welcoming central hub of the house, an open space with an impressive fireplace. To the left, down a few steps, is the convivial, warmly decorated dining area, conveniently located next to the kitchen where the chef will prepare your meals.

To the right of the hub, a few more steps take one down into a generously proportioned, beautifully appointed living area. Comfy armchairs and a sink-in sofa gather around a deep fireplace to one side, while to the other is a second sitting area with TV. Venerable grey lava stone floors provide a foil for colourful kilim rugs; white walls and lofty vaulted ceilings offer a blank canvas for a collection of objets d’art and paintings; furnishings encapsulate the aesthetic of effortless elegance; and banks of glazed doors open out onto the surrounding terraces and gardens. The atmosphere is at once refined, informal, welcoming and luminous, all attributes that define Don Arcangelo all’Olmo as a whole.

A doorway to one side of this first living area leads into a second, even more commodious communal space. Furnished with three large white sofas and boasting another magnificent fireplace, this grand room is imbued with the owners’ exquisite taste, evident in the eclectic artwork, furniture and bibelots brought home after a lifetime of world travel.

The bedrooms in Il Casale are spread over two wings.

The west wing, which is accessed via a staircase from the corridor near the entrance hall, is home to four bedrooms, each with its own name and distinct character:

• Riccardo is a deluxe, double aspect double-twin bedroom with views of both the sea and Mount Etna, a panoramic balcony, and an en-suite bathroom with large walk-in shower
• Terrazzo is another deluxe double-twin with its own private panoramic terrace looking out over the gardens and the sea, and a luxurious bathroom with tub and separate shower
• Ambra, also a deluxe double-twin, has an en-suite bathroom with large walk-in shower
• Etna is a classic double-twin bedroom with great views of A Muntagna (as the locals call Etna), and an en-suite bathroom with tub and separate shower

The east wing, accessed from the first living area, is also home to four bedrooms:

• a few stairs lead down to Archi, a generously proportioned deluxe double boasting an alcove sleeping area, an en-suite bathroom with tub and separate shower, and a shaded terrace area looking out over and accessing the gardens
• Baldacchino, on the first floor, is a deluxe double with a romantic four-poster bed, a balcony offering superb garden and sea views, and a spacious en-suite bathroom with tub and separate shower
• Verde and Arancio are classic double-twins with en-suite shower rooms

The remaining accommodation at Don Arcangelo all’Olmo is in Casa all’Olmo, a luxuriously refurbished guesthouse that mirrors the refinement, elegance and overall style of Il Casale. Situated just a few metres away through the gardens from its larger sister, Casa all’Olmo’s main entrance leads into a bright, welcoming living area with fireplace. Whitewashed wood-beamed ceilings offset the colourful walls and the kilim-covered terracotta floors, while views take in the gardens and the sea.

A wide corridor with windows overlooking the terraces and gardens leads from this space to the four bedrooms:

• Marina, a double-twin with en-suite bathroom with tub and separate shower
• Acquerelli China, a charming double-twin featuring chinoiserie frescoes on the walls and a sumptuous en-suite bathroom with tub and separate shower
• Kilim/Africa, a double bedroom, once more with en-suite bathroom with tub and separate shower
• Tea, a double-twin with en-suite shower room

Outside

you will be absolutely charmed by the colourful, fragrant gardens, whose design harks back to the Arabic belief that gardens should be a place of delight and wonder.

Extensive terracotta terraces fan out in all directions, each one furnished for either relaxing or dining in style. Lava stone steps lead down past manicured lawns, a mini olive grove, lush, perfumed Mediterranean flowers, and an exotic array of mature trees, to the irresistible heatable pool, which is itself surrounded by yet more flourishing, luxuriant greenery.

The views from the gardens to the sea are interrupted only by large expanses of citrus groves, while in the opposite direction, you will become transfixed by the awe-inspiring sight of Mount Etna... All in all this is one of the most spectacular locations in Sicily.

Don Arcangelo all'Olmo is a fully-serviced villa whose excellent staff, including cook, waiters and maids, will ensure that you fully enjoy your stay without having to worry about anything domestic.

Dining at Don Arcangelo all'Olmo
Delicious meals will be prepared and served by the villa’s superb staff. You'll have complete flexibility to take as many or as few meals as you like at the villa, allowing you to sample both the in-house cooking and the excellent local restaurants.

Just tell the staff the day before how many people will be in for each meal, and pay when you check out at the end of your stay.

Prices for ingredients per meal per person for 2026 are as follows*:

Picnic hampers for excursions: €15 per person

Water is included. Guests may order wine to be delivered to Don Arcangelo all'Olmo using our in-villa wine service and a selection of alcoholic and soft drinks is available at an extra cost from the villa's cellar.

Don Arcangelo all’Olmo dates back to the early 1700s, when it was one of several buildings on an aristocratic wine-producing estate. At the beginning of the 19th century, it became home to the vineyard’s winery and, as such, much of the property was filled to the ceiling with barrels of aging wine. Only around 70 years ago did the vines make way for the citrus groves that now surround Olmo.

The painstaking craftsmanship of the restoration has ensured that Don Arcangelo all’Olmo’s modern comforts blend in seamlessly with the original fabric of the house, much of which is built of local lava stone. The general sensation of sophistication and quality is enhanced by the furnishings and furniture, brought back from distant climes by the owners, who are passionate collectors of art and antiques.

The sense of history continues outside. For the great Arab civilisations, garden design was a question of perfection, of creating an earthly paradise of sensuous delights. Gardens, they believed, should inspire wonder and induce a sensation of total well-being. They should envelop visitors in a cocoon of fragrant tranquillity, evoke unworldly pleasures, and offer sanctuary from the mundane. The mature, luxuriant gardens of Don Arcangelo all'Olmo were created with such principles in mind.

Designed, laid out and planted by the owners in the 1990s, Olmo's gardens extend around the property for nearly two acres. They are now tended by a small, dedicated team whose challenge is to work hand in hand with Mother Nature, curb her occasional over-enthusiasm, and exploit her generous bounty. Mount Etna's prodigiously fertile volcanic soils offers up mineral-rich nutrients, Sicily's life-giving sun shines down benevolently, and nocturnal sea breezes bring soothing moisture. The result is a vibrantly voluptuous oasis of manicured beauty.

Olfactory as well as visual sensations abound as one strolls along the lava stone and terracotta paths, lies in the shade by the pool, or dines under the vine-covered pergola. Numerous varieties of jasmine blossom and scent the air throughout the year. Bougainvillea flourishes in a full spectrum of hues: white, lilac, orange and red, sometimes mixed together for a polychromatic spectacle that is further intensified by an omnipresent host of radiant geraniums.

Diminutive chicas and lofty Washingtonia palms stand side by side with prickly pears, carob trees, and exotic Benjamin figs. Thick clusters of intense tropical greens and wild banana trees (strelitzia augustea) hint at the owners' extensive travels in exotic lands, while a shady arbour of ancient olive trees reminds us that Sicily was once the epicentre of Magna Graecia.

Mother Nature's infinite palette and panoply of fragrances continues with a virtuosic display of English roses, petunias, periwinkles, devil’s trumpets, plumeria, hibiscuses and countless other flowering plants. Then, as the sun sets and guests gather for their pre-prandial aperitif on the sea-view terrace, it is the turn of night-blooming cestrum, whose heady scent inebriates the balmy air of Sicily's sensuous summer nights.
