NB: A double-twin bedroom has two single beds that can either be joined together to create a double bed or left separate as two single beds.

Inside

accommodation at Al Mare develops over a main house on three floors and two independently accessed guest rooms in the garden.

From a leafy, walled courtyard, the front door of the main house opens into a voluminous central hallway, off which the ground floor accommodation flows organically. The aesthetic motifs that define the property as a whole are on full display here: terracotta-tiled floors bring a sense of warmth; arched apertures with decorative wrought-iron flourishes create an airy, open feel; banks of windows bring in the light and the sea views, and allow guests to move freely between the interiors and the terraces and gardens.

At the centre of the hallway is a round wooden table, while to one side is an antique wooden chest of drawers topped with marble.

A wide arch with wooden grills and double doors leads into the fabulously, well-equipped kitchen, which is a tale of two halves: the first part features sleek white cabinetry and worktops, a large range cooker and everything else you might need to rustle up a feat; the second, with its colourful countertops, its polished concrete floors and mix of wood-beamed and glass ceilings has an indoor-outdoor feel. It comes with hobs, a sink, a built-in barbecue, and a luminous, convivial dining area with a door opening out onto the surrounding terraces. Just outside is a wood-fired pizza oven.

Back in the central hallway, a pair of wide openings lead into the main house’s remaining communal spaces: a convivial dining area with lofty, wood-beamed ceilings, a large table, and two walls of sliding glass doors opening out onto the terraces; and, down a few steps, a generously proportioned living room with a pair of armchairs and sofa gathered round a large fireplace, and three sets of French doors opening out onto the terraces.

Accommodation on the ground floor is completed by a pair of bedrooms, accessed from a corridor near the front door:

• a double with garden and sea views, access to the pool area, and an en-suite shower room
• a double-twin with garden and sea views, access to the pool area, and a shower room on the opposite side of the corridor

A flight of stairs to one side of the central hallway leads up to the first floor, which is home to two more bedrooms:

• a double with en-suite shower room, sea views and a shaded, private terrace looking out over the gardens and the pool to the sea
• a double-twin with en-suite shower room, sea views and a shaded, private terrace looking out over the gardens and the pool to the sea

The lower floor in the main house, which is accessed via a flight of steps leading from the central hallway, is home to a playroom-living area.

The two externally accessed guest rooms are situated a few metres to one side of the main house. Each one has lofty, wood-beamed ceilings, a double bedroom with garden views, and an en-suite shower room.

Outside

Al Mare sits in extensive, beautifully landscaped gardens bordered by mature, leafy trees that make for a secluded, tranquil atmosphere.

Paved terraces alternate with manicured, emerald lawns, floral beds planted with aromatic plants perfume the air, and vibrant bougainvillea, clinging to the external walls of the house, adds flashes of vivid colour. Dotted here and there around the grounds are places to sit, chat, and sip on a morning cup of coffee or a chilled glass of wine. No matter wherever you are, you'll be able to gaze out at the restful views across the blue Bay of Hinitsa to the neighbouring island of Spetses.

On two sides of the house, the roof extends out to provide ample shade for a long, L-shaped terrace that’s accessed from the all the rooms on the ground floor. Along the front are several areas furnished with coffee tables and chairs, while to the side is a comfortable sitting area with three well-cushioned wicker sofas.

A couple of steps down from the terrace at the front is the pool area, which has been designed for those who wish to spend all day living al fresco. Sitting at the centre is the irresistible 18m-long pool, which is perfect both for proper swimming and for cooling off. To one side is large, U-shaped lounge area with built-in seating topped with plenty of cushioned. To the other is a long, voluminous, pergola topped with terracotta tiles. Under its wood-beamed ceilings is a well-furnished sitting area, a large, convivial dining table, a bar with sink, fridge, and a couple of hobs, and a handy WC.

To the front and side of this pergola is a large area of emerald lawn. Dotted with trees, it's a great spot for fun and games or afternoon snoozes under leafy shade.

One more bit of magic is to be found in the corner of the garden, where a covered staircase leads down to a gate and a 90m-long path leading directly to an idyllic sandy bay.

Last but not least, the two bedrooms on the first floor have their own private, covered terraces looking out over the gardens, the pool and the sea.

Due to the nature of the property, including terraces, low walls and several drops around the grounds, children must be supervised at all times.

There is no real shallow end in the pool (the min. depth is 1.5m).
