Reduced Occupancy

During the shoulder seasons, Pherenike has a reduced price for a group of up to 4 that only need up to 2 bedrooms. The bedrooms not required will be closed, but the rest of the villa, its amenities and its grounds will remain at the complete disposal of guests. Should you book the reduced occupancy rate, the main house bedrooms will be prepared for you.

Inside

accommodation at Pherenike is spread over a main house on three floors and a garden guesthouse.

An imposing open-ended gallery with stone-flagged flooring, beamed ceilings, golden-bronze stone walls and an arched aperture looking out to sea runs along one side of Pherenike, giving guests their first taste of this fascinating, characterful and historic home.

A door to one end of the gallery opens into the first bedroom, a twin with white-washed walls, lofty ceilings and an en-suite bathroom with tub and shower incorporated.

The gallery's central door is the main entrance to the property. Inside, a flight of stairs flanked by thick stone walls leads up to the first floor and the convivial social hub of the property. Accessed from a hallway with a study at one end, is an awe-inspiring reception room, with hard-wood flooring, wooden ceilings and a monumental central fireplace. To one side and in front of the fireplace is a living area, liberally scattered with sofas and armchairs, while to the other is a convivial dining area. Objets d'art, bibelots, ceramics and antique pieces enliven the atmosphere, numerous windows bring in the light, and two sets of French doors allow the space to flow out onto a large, covered sea-view terrace.

The dining area connects with a well-equipped kitchen with richly coloured wooden cabinetry, a central island and a breakfast table.

The kitchen leads back in to the first floor's central hallway, where a staircase leads up to the second floor, which is home to two very spacious double bedrooms, each with a fireplace, an en-suite bathroom (both with tub and shower incorporated), a sitting area, sea views, and access to a large shared terrace offering fabulous vistas.

The remaining accommodation at Pherenike is located in the guesthouse, down by the pool. Here there is a little living area with sofa bed, a kitchenette, a double bedroom with en-suite shower room, and a single bedroom with a shower room next door.

Outside

Pherenike boasts extensive terraced gardens planted with mature pine and cypress trees, flowering Mediterranean shrubs and lawns. Dotted with little seating areas, including a shady hammock, there is plenty of space for guests to spread out.

Perhaps the star of the show is the large terrace running along the front of the first floor. Accessed from the open-plan living and dining area, it has two shaded areas - one for sitting and one for dining - and enchanting views out over the coast of Hydra, the sea and the eastern tip of the Peloponnese.

Steps lead down from this lovely space to the terrace below, on through the manicured mature gardens, and down to the inviting pool which, like the rest of the property, boasts wonderful views.

Last but not least is the large terrace shared between the two bedrooms on the second floor. Comfortably furnished for taking in the wide-open vistas, it is arguably the most panoramic spot of all.

For a more comfortable trip from the port up to Pherenike on your arrival (it's about a 20-minute walk up quite a steep, cobbled path), you could "rent" a mule or two to help with your luggage (the traditional way of getting around on this island without motorised vehicles). This option is great if you're looking to add a bit of authenticity to your stay. If no mules are available, please note that the only way is on foot.

Due to the nature of the property including terraces low walls and several drops around the grounds, children must be supervised at all times.

The number of steps that must be negotiated to get into and/or around this property might make it unsuitable for people with mobility problems.

Please note that there is no real shallow end in the pool, whose minimum depth is 1.5m.

As this villa is located on an island, we recommend extra caution when booking your flights to avoid problems or delays with ferries and hydrofoils. It may be advisable to arrive a day earlier and depart a day later. Please contact us for any information or advice.

Please note that due to the risk of wildfires, the use of fire pits and barbecues is restricted when the weather is windy or temperatures are high. This is particularly common in July and August. More information will be provided in your House Guide and via your local specialist.
