Sunset views and blue-green hues
Petalida is a handsome, sophisticated and meticulously designed villa that gazes out across the sea to the eastern extremity of the Peloponnese. Beautifully finished interiors flow out onto myriad terraces, a basketball court offers opportunities for fun and games, and a path leads down through the gardens to the coast, where, in just a couple of minutes, you can be lounging on Plakes beach and swimming in the irresistible waters of the Aegean.

Petalida is located roughly half way along the north coast of Hydra on the side of a hill above Plakes beach. The island's capital, Hydra Port, is about 3km to the west.
Hydra is the most southerly of the Saronic Islands after Spetses, and is located off the eastern tip of the Peloponnese. Measuring just 20km (west to east) by 5km (north to south), it is easy to discover in a week, as long as you rent a boat or travel by sea taxi - cars are not allowed on Hydra and there are very few roads.
Apart from Plakes beach below the villa, there are several other idyllic bays to enjoy, including those of Vlichos, Palamidas and Molos (between around 900m and 2.3km away on the north coast), Mandraki in the northeast, and Limnioniza on the southeast coast (both most easily accessed by boat).
In terms of tavernas, there are several within walking distance, including that of the Four Seasons hotel just along the beach.
The island's mountainous hinterland is scattered with monasteries and crisscrossed by ancient mule tracks, making hiking an interesting proposition in the spring and autumn. Peaks rise up to over 500m before plummeting precipitously into the sea, especially on the south coast, and creating a spectacular coastline.
The island's capital, Hydra Port, is a pretty, unspoilt town and well worth spending some time in. Its harbourfront tavernas and bars rub shoulders with grand mansions built by 19th-century shipping magnates, and there are plenty of independent little shops and a few museums and galleries to explore. Just 5 minutes away by sea taxi, or a 3.2km-walk along a scenic coastal path, it's tantalisingly close.
From the Guest Book
Petalida was a peaceful paradise. We loved the many outside spaces with beautiful views and the overall interior design. It was so peaceful and perfect for what we wanted. We loved the island was car free but we could walk into the port. We would love to return and please tell the villa owners thanks for sharing their amazing space.

Petalida is a spacious, beautiful and luxurious home from home just steps from the sparkling sea, yet surrounded by beautiful gardens. It's secluded, peaceful and private - a wonderful combination. We loved the terraces with well thought through seating for eating and relaxing in either warm sunshine or shade. This was a special trip for us for a milestone birthday. We would love to return next time with our family. It's a wonderful house on a magical island - we feel fortunate to have spent time there. Thank you for another another wonderful stay.
