Inside

accommodation at Petalida is laid out over two floors.

The main entrance leads into the upper floor and a gorgeous, luminous open-concept communal space with far-reaching sea views. Soaring, intricate wood-beamed ceilings rest on pearl-white walls, dove grey doors, window frames and shutters add to the mellow feel, and stone floors with hints of bronze complete the background palette.

To one side of the room, flanked by a pair of French doors opening out onto a terrace, is a grand fireplace. A comfy sofa faces the fireplace alongside a pair of immaculately reupholstered antique wooden chairs, and a honey-coloured wooden bar with carved seahorse motifs stands in the corner.

Behind this living area is an oval dining table and a well-equipped kitchen that runs along a wall. Its wood-slatted cabinetry is painted in the same dove grey as the doors, window frames and shutters.

Artworks adorn the walls, adding splashes of blue and gold here and there, and well-placed objets bring yet more personality and interest. The aesthetic logic and the design details of this space are reiterated throughout the property, creating a uniformity of style and an organic sense of flow.

To the far side of communal space, passing a guest WC and the stairs down to the lower floor, is the principal bedroom, a sunny, sea-view double with an en-suite shower room. Gazing out to sea and accessing the same terrace that runs outside the communal space, this is a delightful spot in which to wake up.

Heading down the stairs to the lower level, one comes to a central hallway, off which the two remaining bedrooms – a double and a double-twin - are accessed. Both come with inspiring sea views, en-suite shower rooms, and access to a comfortably furnished shared terrace.

Outside

al fresco life at Petalida plays out on a series of sea-view terraces running along the front and side of the property.

On the top level, accessed from the communal space and the principal bedroom, is a long, cane-shaded space furnished with easy chairs and a table. On the same level, outside the main entrance, is arguably the most convivial spot of all. Divided into two cane-shaded areas: the first hosts a breakfast table, and an expanse of marble worktop wrapping around a sink - an extension of the kitchen inside; the second, which is down a step, has a round marble dining table, a sitting area, and an impressively proportioned, built-in barbecue. As ever, the views from here are intoxicating, especially in the late afternoon and early evening, as the sun begins its golden, melting descent into the sea.

Steps lead down from outside the main entrance to the lower terrace (also accessed from the two bedrooms on the lower floor), which is comfortably furnished for sitting and lounging.

Flourishing gardens, olive groves and fruit trees wrap around the property and extend down to the garden gate, where a little road runs along the seafront. To one side of the house, meanwhile, is the icing on the cake for sports enthusiasts: a basketball court.

Due to the nature of the property including terraces low walls, many steps and several drops around the grounds, children must be supervised.

There is room for only one baby cot (quite a tight fit in the principal bedroom).

Just along the coast from Petalida is Hydra’s Four Seasons Hotel, whose beach club and restaurant, Tassia’s Tavern, are accessible to guests staying at Petalida.

As this villa is located on an island, we recommend extra caution when booking your flights to avoid problems or delays with ferries and hydrofoils. It may be advisable to arrive a day earlier and depart a day later. Please contact us for any information or advice.

Please note that due to the risk of wildfires, the use of fire pits and barbecues is restricted when the weather is windy or temperatures are high. This is particularly common in July and August. More information will be provided in your House Guide and via your local specialist.
