The baroque terrace in town
Unassumingly tucked away in a quiet street, and yet just an amble from all that's best of glorious Noto, Palazzo Alvear is a real find for connoisseurs of sophisticated living, aesthetic finesse and timeless charm. The property's exquisitely finished, sumptuously furnished interiors are a delight in themselves, but it also come with a pair of al fresco aces up its silk sleeves: a heatable courtyard pool and a majestic terrace.

Wow! Palazzo Alvear was so beautifully designed. It was impeccably maintained and right in the center of town. We had such a magical stay. Loved loved loved!

Our time at Palazzo Alvear and in Noto was all about relaxing. Morning walks, long lunches, afternoon swims and quiet evenings spent on the terrace. The location in Noto is spectacular and having a dedicated parking space out front is a real plus.

Palazzo Alvear a fantastic villa (or mini palace) in an amazing town. It is spacious, very comfortable, clean, well equipped but also very classy and a bit grand!

The location and the quality of Palazzo Alvear really stood out. We are already looking to book again. If we could sum up our experience in a few words, I would say an extremely high quality product very step of the way.

Palazzo Alvear is a unique and beautiful home filled with interesting collections in the heart of gorgeous Noto. We loved the location and and the interiors. Would we return? Yes, it was beautiful, comfortable, and in a great location.

Palazzo Alvear is a very special villa (palazzo!) of the usual standard, character and charm that I have learned to expect from The Thinking Traveller. It was a fantastic location for our family at the stage where our children are older and want some independence by being in a town.

Palazzo Alvear is situated in a relatively quiet street in the centre of the fascinating baroque town of Noto, whose architectural treasures, shops, restaurants, cafés and bars are within a few minutes' stroll.
Noto is the most easterly of a chain of baroque towns now protected as a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is perhaps the most perfect of all and was rebuilt in flamboyant style following a major earthquake in 1693.
Down on the coast below is a series of idyllic sandy beaches including those of Vendicari Nature Reserve. Depending on the time of year, Vendicari is home to thousands of migrating birds, including flamingos, and sea turtles come to nest on its beaches. In the autumn, winter and spring it is a great spot for coastal walking.
The magnificent, historic Greek city of Syracuse is just half an hour's drive away, and a day there is highly recommended to anybody spending time at Palazzo Alvear. A little further afield, the other baroque towns of Modica, Ragusa, Scicli, and Palazzolo Acreide (this latter with an impressive Greek archaeological site) are all easily reachable.
Lastly, for keen hikers, there is some spectacular scenery in the rushing streams and waterfalls of Cassibile and at the Paleolithic burial sites in the dramatic valley of Pantalica.

A helicopter trip in Sicily over Etna and to the Aeolian Islands is a highly moving experience, enough to reduce grown men and women to tears! Book with us for a truly unforgettable addition to your Sicilian holiday.

Nero D’Avola, Cerasuolo di Vittoria, Frappato, Syrah and Moscato Bianco are just a few of the grape varieties cultivated in the Noto area, and we heartily recommend a vineyard visit during your stay. We know the right people and the most prestigious wineries in the area, and we’d be delighted to arrange a chauffeured wine tasting tour with lunch for you.

From here until the southeasternmost tip of Sicily, the coastline is an uninterrupted stretch of sandy beach, dotted with picturesque little resort towns, including Punta Secca (Inspector Montalbano's home), Marina di Ragusa, Donnalucata, Cava d'Aliga, Sampieri and Marina di Modica. The last strip, made up of several miles of dunes, is where the Allied forces landed in the 2nd World War. At the southernmost tip of Sicily is Isola Delle Correnti, offering an almost African scenario. Indeed, here we are considerably further south than Tunis.Just around the southeastern tip and heading north up the east coast, are the beaches of Marzamemi, San Lorenzo and Vendicari Nature Reserve. The reserve's salt water lagoons and varieties of flora offer the ideal habitat for a wide range of fauna, including nesting turtles and migrating flamingos.Continuing up the east coast, between Vendicari and the historic Greek town of Syracuse, are the popular sandy beaches of Marina di Noto, Calabernado, Marina di Avola, Gelsomineto, Fontane Bianche and Arenella.
