NB: A double-twin bedroom has two single beds that can either be joined together to create a double bed or left separate as two single beds.

Inside

accommodation at Nido d'Estia is all on one floor. The main entrance takes one into a centrally positioned living area, off which the rest of accommodation flows organically. Lofty vaulted ceilings, alternating stone and melon-ochre-painted walls, and polished concrete floors combine to provide a mellow backdrop for the colourful retro and mid-century furnishings that include a high-backed faded teal sofa, two pale yellow slipper chairs, a wooden coffee table, a large upcycled baby blue armoire, and a trio of hanging lights.

This harmonious, restful style continues throughout the house. To one side of the living room, double doors open into a beautifully designed suite, complete with double bed, a huge in-room walk-in rainfall shower for two (with theatrical proscenium arch drapes when privacy is required), an en-suite WC with a venerable reclaimed stone laundry sink, and French windows looking out onto and accessing the pool.

Back in the living room, more double doors open into a corridor, off which, at one end, is the well-equipped kitchen with its mid-century American-style cupboards, breakfast table, and French windows accessing the shaded al fresco dining and living areas.

At the other end of the corridor is the second bedroom, a twin-double with French windows opening out onto the terraces that wrap around the property. This bedroom is served by a shower room a couple of steps away along the corridor.

Outside

delimited by the dry-stone walls that so typify this part of Sicily, the sea-facing grounds of Nido d'Estia provide an ideal environment for those in search of an fully al fresco lifestyle. Accessed from the kitchen is a shady pergola with whispering white curtains and a panoramically positioned dining table.

From here, it is a matter of a couple of paces to the superb pool, which includes a hydromassage corner and is also accessed from the master bedroom and the living room. A carob tree - perhaps the emblem of the countryside in these parts - provides natural shade and a convenient support for a swing chair. Creamy white stone surrounds the pool on two sides, while on the third is a large expanse of emerald green lawn.

Views take in the surrounding farmland and, in the distance, the shimmering sea. The side and rear sections of the grounds are planted with low-lying Mediterranean shrubs and a large centuries-old carob tree.

Masseria d'Estia is situated amidst farmland sometimes used for grazing cattle.

Just down the road is a cheese-making farm producing and selling delicious Ragusano DOP cheeses.
