Cactus

NB: A double-twin bedroom has two single beds that can either be joined together to create a double bed or left separate as two single beds.

Reduced Occupancy

During the shoulder seasons, Antika has a reduced price for a group of up to 6 that only need up to 3 bedrooms. The bedrooms not required will be closed, but the rest of the villa, its amenities and its grounds will remain at the complete disposal of guests. Should you book the reduced occupancy rate the Cactus house and one of the remaining two houses will be prepared for you, depending on your group composition.

Inside

accommodation at Antika is laid out over a main house and three garden guesthouses - Cactus, Wisteria and Bougainvillea. The villa was originally designed and built by the renowned architect Paolo Tilche, who, along with his partner Miriam Beltrami, created the legendary boutique Hotel Raya in the 1950s.

The main house is the communal heart of the property. The entrance leads in from a panoramic terrace to a generously proportioned open-concept space on two levels. The lower section is given over to a voluminous, curvaceous living area with wraparound, built-in seating topped with cushions, and an impressive decorative fireplace.

A couple of steps up from here is the dining area, which is furnished with a stylish round table and chairs. Doors open out from here into the gardens.

Architecturally, this convivial space is of great interest: the lofty wood-and-cane ceilings add a sense of airy volume; the different sized windows bring in a soft light; the smooth cream textured concrete floors create a seamless flow; and the walls, which incorporate both decorative and practical recessed niches, appear to have been moulded by the hands of a master sculptor. All of these are leitmotifs destined to return throughout the property, uniting the various houses in a pleasing homogeneity of style.

An opening leads through from the dining area to the gorgeous kitchen, which incorporates antique Sicilian tiles, built-in storage, bespoke cabinetry, a venerable wooden worktop table, and a range of top-quality appliances. Right off this kitchen is a guest WC.

A few steps along a stone path from the main house is the first guesthouse, Cactus, which hosts a double-twin bedroom and an en-suite shower room with garden access.

The second and third guesthouses - Wisteria and Bougainvillea - are located about 15m behind the main house and accessed via paths that weave through the gardens.

• Wisteria hosts two bedrooms, each independently accessed from a shared terrace. The first is a double with en-suite shower room, the second a double-twin bedroom with en-suite bathroom with tub and rainfall shower. An interconnecting door between the two bedrooms can be left open (in the case of children sleeping next to their parents) or locked for full privacy.
• Bougainvillea also comprises two independently accessed double bedrooms with en-suite shower rooms. One has a built-in sofa, which can, on request, be transformed into a single bed for a child.

All the bedrooms at Antika are of a similar size and quality and all the en-suite bathrooms are stylish and finished to a very high standard.

Outside

Antika's glorious gardens fan out for over 1.5 acres. Fruit of volcanic soils, time, a wonderful climate and the skilful hand of man, they are a wonderland of colour, luxuriance, fragrance and and variety. There's an abundance of shady spots in which to read a book or take an afternoon snooze, and plenty of sun-kissed terraces for those who wish to soak up Helios' rejuvenating rays.

Rampant bougainvillea, jasmine and wisteria embellish the walls of the houses and shade terraces, cacti of all shapes and sizes bask in the sun, palm trees reach for the skies, hibiscus and other flowering plants compete in a polychromatic beauty contest, the citrus grove gifts lemons, oranges, limes, mandarins and cedro, and aromatic pine trees, alive with the gentle hum of crickets, gather in cool copses.

Numerous stone paths weave through the gardens, connecting the main house to its satellites, the many terraces, and the pool.

The living area of the main house opens out onto a partly shaded sea-view terrace, while to the side is a wonderful, fully shaded al fresco dining area served by a well-equipped outdoor kitchen with grill, sink and hobs. This is a most convivial spot for lazy lunches and long dinners accompanied by the shushed plashing of the waves against the shore.

A second al fresco dining area is tucked away under the shady pine trees, offering a variety of choice when it comes to meal times.

Bougainvillea has its own shady terrace, while Wisteria comes with two: a superbly panoramic sea-view roof terrace with day beds and cushioned seating (the perfect spot for aperitifs); and a dining area below served by an al fresco kitchen with gas hot plate, fridge, and barbecue.

Between the sea and the main house, meanwhile, is the artfully designed, curvaceous pool, which comes complete with hydromassage corner and infinity edge looking out to sea. Under the shady fronds of the surrounding palm trees there is a pool bar with a drinks fridge. Here, a couple of four-poster day beds invite guests to enter a world of total repose.

For post-prandial drinks under the moon and the stars there is no better spot than the sitting area next to the sea wall.

Panarea is a car-free island but golf cart taxis are available to get around.

Antika features a fantastic infinity pool, offering swimmers stunning views while in the pool. There is a drop off the infinity side so we recommend children are supervised at all times. Please refer to our general safety page if you would like more information about infinity pools.

Please note that there is no real shallow end in the pool (min. depth more than 1.3m)

Due to the nature of the property including terraces low walls and several drops around the grounds, children must be supervised at all times.

Please note that Antika is situated in a quiet part of Panarea with a few neighbours nearby. Guests are therefore politely requested to refrain from playing loud music during their stay and to keep noise to an absolute minimum when returning home at night after dinner or drinks out.

The Cactus bedroom's location on the property means that it sometimes does not have Wi-Fi.

As this villa is located on an island, we recommend extra caution when booking your flights to avoid problems or delays with ferries and hydrofoils. It may be advisable to arrive a day earlier and depart a day later. Please contact us for any information or advice.

Please note that although Antika is located on the seafront, there is no direct access to the sea.
