accommodation at Maria is laid out over two floors.

The heart of the home is a spacious, free-flowing, open-concept space on the ground floor, where guest can gather, cook, dine and relax in each other's company. With its mixture of white and stone feature walls, wood-beamed ceilings, flagged floors, curvaceous contours, and vertical bamboo posts, this warmly welcoming hub neatly encapsulates Maria's eye-catching design. Decorative elements with a maritime theme hint at the property's proximity to the sea, thoughtfully chosen lighting imbues each space with a soft atmosphere, and exotic flourishes add a sense of verve.

The focal point is a sunken living area, which is furnished with two capacious white sofas looking out via French doors to the main terrace. Up above, to one side, is another sitting area with a pair of lounge chairs gathered round a large, decorative fireplace, and a circular dining table. Strategically positioned picture windows look out at the luxuriant, leafy foliage of the surrounding gardens.

On the other side of this communal space is the fully equipped, characterful kitchen, which includes a central breakfast table. A glass door opens out directly onto the al fresco dining area.

From a central hallway with a shower room and a laundry room, a corridor leads to the remaining accommodation on the ground floor: two double bedrooms with garden views and a shared shower rooms.

The first floor at Maria is accessed via a staircase from the central hallway and hosts two more bedrooms, both of which feel as if they're nestled in the canopy of the surrounding trees:

• the master, a generously spacious, romantic double with a grand, decorative fireplace, a luxuriously finished en-suite shower room, and access to a shared panoramic terrace overlooking the gardens
• a triple bedroom, also with en-suite shower room and access to the shared terrace. (Two of the beds can be joined to create a double.)

Outside

Maria is enclosed by wonderfully vibrant Mediterranean gardens that wrap around the house. Mature pines, giant, leafy strelitzias, and exotic palms rise up around the perimeter, creating a restful atmosphere of privacy and seclusion. A wide variety of bushy shrubs and flowering plants add yet more greenery and colour, and manicured lawns offer space in which to play, stroll and unwind.

The communal space and the kitchen on the ground floor open out onto a semi-circular terrace, whose beamed ceilings and terracotta-tiled roof is a natural extension of the house.

This indoor-outdoor space, which is generously furnished for dining and lounging, in turn opens out onto a large decked area that incorporates the tempting, heatable, figure-of-eight pool. Flanked on two sides by quality sun loungers and a shady double daybed, the pool is also served by a comfortably furnished sitting area with sofas, armchairs and a table and chairs nestling under a shade-giving sail.

Just beyond this area, outside the kitchen, is a built-in barbecue area served by work tops and a sink.

Soft green lawns take over where the decking ends, wrapping around the house and leading to a fabulous feature, a sandy beach tennis court.

Last but not least, both bedrooms on the upper floor open out onto a shared terrace overlooking the gardens and the towering pine trees that provide a sense of aromatic seclusion.

Due to the nature of the property, which includes terraces, low walls and a few drops around the grounds, children must be supervised at all times.
