About the area
Martina Franca lies in the Taranto province of Puglia and is characterised by its elegant old centre, where grand palazzos and churches line the narrow streets. The centre is enclosed by the remains of its ancient walls and distinguished by four remaining Baroque gates. The more modern section of the town, developed in the 19th century, is delineated from the old town via the gates, and features some fine buildings and a tranquil shady park.

- Relax in Martina Franca’s piazzas: Stroll through the tree-lined expanse of Piazza XX Settembre, which leads through the Porta di Santo Stefano (one of the four gates) into Piazza Roma. From here it is a short walk through the narrow streets to Piazza Plebiscito and from this splendid piazza, we recommend you just follow your nose and soak up the atmosphere, stopping off, perhaps, for refreshments in one of the many outdoor cafés.
- Admire the Palazzo Ducale: Explore the impressive 17th-century Palazzo Ducale, located in Piazza Roma, which was built as a regal residence and showcases the grandeur of Martina Franca's aristocratic past. Here you’ll find a museum where you can admire regional artwork and period pieces.
