Wow! We had such a lovely week at Ortikia! It has stunning views and is so comfy and homey. About the property
Inside
Accommodation at Ortikia is laid out over a main house on two levels and an independent guest bedroom just across the terraces.The entrance to the main house leads in to a spacious living and dining area with lofty, wood-beamed ceilings, capacious sink-in sofas and a panoramically positioned dining table. Three sets of French doors offer seamless access to the main outside terrace and pool area, and a feature fireplace surrounded by a wall of exposed stone adds warmth and character.
To the left of this space is the well-equipped country kitchen, which has a central islands and French doors accessing the covered al fresco dining area.
To the right of the living area, a short corridor leads to the first two bedrooms:
- a double with a large en-suite shower room and access to the side terraces
- a double-twin, also with an en-suite shower room and access to the side terraces
The independent, externally accessed guest room is a double with en-suite shower room.
Outside
the focal point of the outdoor areas at Ortikia is the large panoramic, stone-flagged terrace, which is home to a shady area for al fresco lounging and dining, and a fabulous sea-view infinity pool.To one side of the house, just outside the kitchen, is a large barbecue and wood-fired oven, and a raised garden area, from where one may take in 360-degree views of Lefkada's wooded mountains, the sea, the island of Meganissi and much, much more.

About the Area
Ortikia is situated in the southeast of Lefkada, just over the water from the neighbouring island of Meganissi, a few minutes drive from the village of Poros and a 15-minute drive from the beach, harbour and seafront tavernas of Mikros Gialos, where it is also possible to rent boats.
Exploring the island of Lefkada, which is 35km long and 15km wide, is relatively easy in a week (if you can pull yourselves away from the views and pool of the villa!) and offers a great deal to see and do. The azure, transparent waters of the Ionian Sea are a real attraction and the varied coastline includes a host of golden sandy beaches and the dramatic white cliffs Cape Lefkatas on the southern tip. The wooded mountains of the interior, some of which rise to over 1100m, offer excellent walking, some truly beautiful scenery and a scattering of unspoilt villages where the way of life remains profoundly connected to the island's ancient traditions and customs.
The island's capital, Lefkada Town, meanwhile, is a buzzing centre with plenty of seafront tavernas and bars, a good selection of shops, and a busy marina.
At its northern point Lefkada is connected to mainland Greece by a causeway and, via frequent ferry services from the ports of Nidri and Vasiliki, to several of the other islands of the Ionian archipelago (including nearby Meganissi), making it eminently possible to explore further afield.
Considerations
Due to the nature of the property, which includes terraces, low walls and several drops around the grounds, children must be supervised at all times.
Although largely paved, parts of the access road to this property include some quite steep twists and turns and narrow stretches. We recommend guests rent smaller cars with high ground clearance rather than large people carriers or mini vans.
Please note that due to the risk of wildfires, the use of fire pits and barbecues is restricted when the weather is windy or temperatures are high. This is particularly common in July and August. More information will be provided in your House Guide and via your local specialist.

Ortikia is a very attractive villa that allowed us to relax in a beautiful environment. It's in a a fabulous position, attractively built and laid out, and functions well (aircon etc). All this was enhanced by the excellent support of the local Thinking Traveller specialist.

What stood out about Ortikia for us? The quality of the villa and the views. It was lovely that we had a welcome package of food, drink and wine. The kitchen was well equipped and there are great areas to BBQ and eat outside. We loved the area, the quiet and the nice local harbours to visit for dinner.

Ortikia is in the most fabulous position with extraordinary views across the southeast of Lefkada and over to Ithaca, Kefalonia and Meganissi. The rooms in the villa are all a very good size, particularly the spectacular master suite, and the villa is comfortable and very well-appointed - all the kitchen equipment that you could imagine and an easy-to-use and very effective built in barbecue. Effective air-conditioning and wonderfully quiet nights. In summary, we spent a wonderful two weeks in a stunning house in a spectacular location.
