Piazza Armerina is renowned for the Villa Romana del Casale, built in the mid-4th century AD as a hunting lodge. The villa boasts some of the best-preserved and extensive examples of Roman mosaics, covering approximately 3,500 square metres. These vivid mosaics, likely created by North African artisans, depict a variety of subjects, from mythological scenes to everyday life, including the famous “bikini girls” mosaic. Beyond the villa, Piazza Armerina itself is worth exploring. The town features an Aragonese Castle, an imposing 18th-century Duomo, and is conveniently located near the towns of Agrigento and Caltagirone.
