Experience the Greek Theatre Festival in Syracuse
Sun down, curtain up: celebrate spring and early summer at the ancient Greek theatre in Syracuse, Sicily, as it hosts its internationally renowned annual festival of classical Greek drama. May 10 to June 29, 2024.

Imagine the scene: it’s early evening, the Sicilian sun has almost vanished, and the dusky sky is streaked with pinks and golds. As you take your seat, looking out towards the sea, there’s a buzz of anticipation. The skene (scenery) is illuminated, and the cavea is full of excited theatregoers. The play you’ve come to see at this 2,500-year-old venue will start any moment now.

Welcome to the ancient Greek theatre in Syracuse's Neapolis Archaeological Park. Since 1914, it has been home to an annual two-month-long Greek theatre festival dedicated to the works of Aristophanes, Sophocles, Euripides, Aeschylus and other classical masters.

The 2024 season runs from 10th May to 29th June and includes performances of Ajax (Sophocles), Hippolytus (Euripides) and Miles Gloriosus (Plautus). If you’re staying with us in southeast Sicily during this period, why not contact your Local Specialist for more information and help with booking tickets? Finally, for ballet lovers, Syracuse’s theatre is hosting another unmissable event on 14th July 2024: the great Roberto Bolle, principal dancer Étoile at La Scala Theatre Ballet, will be performing with friends for one night only.
