This archaeological workshop is designed for kids (7 to 13), and focuses on Tauromenion (Taormina) and the town’s most important archaeological site, the world famous Teatro Greco, which offers marvellous views across the Ionian Sea and Mount Etna.
We invite children and their parents to find out about the origins and purpose of this majestic teatro. Was it built to watch theatrical performances or mock fights and gladiator events?
Using their surroundings and pictures of ancient artefacts as their main source of inspiration, children will create a colourful replica of an actor’s mask, or the helmet and sword of a gladiator. They will use materials such as cardboard, pencils, paper clips, and their creativity will be encouraged. Armed with a stimulating blend of stories, explanations and dynamic activities, an archaeologist with teaching experience will guide them through this journey of discovery, where they will learn a great deal about about the customs of ancient Tauromenion.
