Discover two of Sicily's most prestigious wineries: Benanti and Barone di Villagrande

We’ve joined forces with two of the most prestigious wineries on Mount Etna – Benanti and Barone di Villagrande - to take you on a fascinating (and extremely tasty) discovery of one of the most innovative and exciting wine producing areas in Sicily.

Your day will begin with one of our drivers picking you up at your villa (if available at your villa – please see below at which villas pick-up is possible), followed by a short drive to the Benanti winery, where their staff will be waiting out on the charming rustic patio to greet you and give you an introduction to the winery’s origins, its philosophy and to the Etna region.

This will be followed by a short stroll up to the scenic Monte Serra vineyard, situated on an extinct volcanic crater - a true landmark of the area. Here, you will be able to take in the natural beauty of Mount Etna and its surroundings, walk through the vines, step on the renowned black volcanic soil, and learn more about how the vines are cultivated. You will also be able to see Benanti’s 100 year-old, pre-phylloxera Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio vines, situated at the very top of the hill.

Heading back to the winery, your tour will continue with a visit of Benanti’s palmento, a spectacular lava-stone vinification hall which dates back to the 18th century and which is one of the best preserved on Etna.

Then it’s time for our favourite part - the actual wine tasting – which will be accompanied by some local bread, cheeses, salami and olive oil.

When you have completed your wine tasting at Benanti, your driver will whisk you off to Barone di Villagrande, where you will be taken around the vineyards, the winery and their ancient cellar, built in 1850. The vineyards of the Barone di Villagrande estate fan out in a large amphitheater at an altitude of between 650 and 700m above sea level.

The distinctive mountain climate, the specific orientation and the neighbouring oak and chestnut tree forests, creates not only a beautiful environment but also a unique terroir. During your tour, you’ll discover how the natural magic of Etna combines with the perseverance and passion of man to create wines that are a full and genuine expression of their territory. You’ll taste a selection of five wines to accompany a super 4-course lunch.
