The Aeolian Islands Preservation Fund is a non-profit organisation whose aims are to help preserve the archipelago’s unique characteristics and natural beauty, and to promote and support ecological and cultural initiatives.
The Aeolian Islands Preservation Fund was founded by Luca del Bono and Ben Goldsmith in May 2015 and follows in the successful footsteps of the Ibiza Preservation Fund, which, since its institution in 2009, has been providing over €100,000 in financial support per year to environmental projects on the island.
The Aeolian Islands, a UNESCO World Heritage, are situated just off the north coast of Sicily. Comprising seven main islands, including two that are active volcanoes, the archipelago offers a sublime mix of natural beauty, geological spectacle, lava-sand beaches, crystalline waters, ancient wine-making and gastronomic traditions, an abundant variety of flora, fauna and marine life, and a millennial history at the heart of some of the Mediterranean’s most momentous events.
The Aeolian Islands Preservation Fund, whose sponsors include The Thinking Traveller, focuses on safeguarding the archipelago’s timeless treasures and raising funds to finance local individuals and organisations whose projects facilitate sustainable development in the islands.
