Whether you want a gentle family ride around the olive groves taking in local villages, waterfalls and churches or you want to take it to the extreme and power up to one of the highest points on the island, it’s all possible. Over 70% of the island is mountainous providing a playground of tracks and trails for keen mountain bikers. A biking destination that is yet to take off, Lefkada is truly a hidden gem.
Rides start from Nidri. Beyond these villages there are kilometres of olive groves and rural villages to explore. Heading out to sea takes you to one island of Meganissi which has maintained many Greek traditions. The rides are suitable for everyone from a low to a high fitness level.
The bike guides have lived, worked and played on the island for many years and explored the tracks and trails in depth. Qualified bike guides and enthusiastic riders, they have carefully chosen the equipment on offer. All riders are equipped with a 2016 Saracen Mantra Trail hardtail mountain bike with the option to upgrade to a 2016 full suspension Saracen Arial Pro. The guides come prepared with all the necessary equipment (bikes, helmets, gloves and bottle cages – suitable for 750ml water bottles), knowledge and skills so all you need is a bottle of water, suitable footwear and a few euros for refreshments.
In addition to the guided bike tours, you can rent road bikes with free delivery for €20 per day. Bikes come with helmet, a mini bike pump, repair kit and lock.
Serene to extreme, there is a wide range of rides to suit all abilities. From the local Taster rides, priced at €18 and designed to introduce you to biking and the immediate local area, to Meganissi island day trips and Extreme rides priced from €35. (Prices exclude food and drinks.)
Family ride - €20

Suitable for families with children aged 4+ who can ride our co-pilot trailer bikes. There is a limited number of trailer bikes so it's important to book early.
Duration: between 1.5 and 2hrs.
This flat leisure ride is on the tarmac around the cool peaceful olive groves and includes a trip to the famous Nidri waterfalls nestled at the foot of the mountains that surround the village. Here at the waterfalls riders have the opportunity to walk the final path to admire the falls or simply relax under the plane trees at the cafe. The temperature here is significantly cooler, making it an ideal place to chill out.
Taster Rides – €20
(children are free when using a co-pilot trailer bike)
Gentle beginner rides suitable for everyone. These rides are generally on the flat with some short inclines. All rides last approximately two hours and include a drink stop.

This two hour ride is a peaceful meander around the olive groves, passing through the villages of Haradiatika, Koloni and Rachi and stopping for coffee at the waterfalls café for 30 minutes to give riders the opportunity to walk the final path to admire the pools. Be close to nature and enjoy the tranquillity that the olive groves provide.

This ride explores the peninsula of Geni, across the water from Nidri. You cut through the fishing village of Vlicho and head down the peninsular to Agia Kiriaki (Saint Sunday) chapel, the little white chapel a stone's throw from Nidri's promenade. To end this serene ride you ascend up and over to Desimi bay with its crystal clear water and caves. Although most of this ride is fairly flat there is a rather steep incline on the final push to get up and over and down to Desimi bay.
Intermediate Rides - €25
The intermediate rides last approximately three hours and are suitable for mountain bikers with some experience and a good level of fitness.

Starting off in the playground of olive groves, this ride begins by taking you on a number of short steep climbs leading to various beautiful viewpoints of Nidri and the surrounding villages from all aspects, before taking you through the mountain village of Haradiatika and onto the fire road that traverses towards Paleokatouna. Climbing up into the village and making a stop at a café before descending through terraced olive groves on another fabulous single track. This adrenaline-filling descent is a perfect end to a great local ride.
Note: This ride is a combination of on and off road, with many ascents and descents; it’s not only a perfect workout, but enables you to experience the vistas of Nidri along the way.

This ride takes the main road up to the mountain village of Neohori (meaning new village), from where you will see stunning panoramic views of the surrounding islands. This traditional rural village is home to four churches and this ride will take a small tour past the churches and stone houses before leaving the village behind on a fire road that takes you to the start of the downhill descent through the valley. At the end you will arrive in the lower village of Paleokatouna for a drink stop at a café before an additional adrenaline-filled descent through the olive groves of Paleokatouna.
Note: Neohori Valley hides a spectacular downhill track that snakes through the thick vegetation and terraced olive groves. Not forgetting to take the time to admire the view, this descent does however require concentration and some skill due to the uneven rocky terrain.
Meganissi Day Trips - €35

Meganissi is the biggest island off the coast of Lefkas and its rugged coastline and secluded bays form a popular destination for yachtsmen. This traditional island has been explored by many from the coastline but Get Active are offering a unique opportunity to get off the beaten track and explore the interior of this beautiful island with pedal power.
This trip gives visitors the chance to explore the three traditional villages on Meganissi: Spartohori, Katomeri and Vathi. With scenic viewpoints along the way, this active day-out includes many opportunities to recover with a chance to swim in the crystal clear waters at Fanari beach and a lazy lunch in a taverna on the water’s edge.
Note: This trip is for people who have some experience riding a mountain bike and are at a moderate fitness level. The ride is predominantly on tarmac road, however does involve some uphill climbs and flat off-road terrain.
With a full day on the island you will go to places that few have visited before, venturing towards the wild southern tip of the island with waves crashing on the cliffs and panoramic vistas of the neighbouring islands of Ithaca and Kefalonia. Admire the yachts and boats tacking across the Ionian and see this area like few have ever experienced it before. Visiting the three villages, swimming in a quiet bay and lunching at a traditional seaside taverna are just some of the highlights of this popular trip.
Note: This day trip is for people who have some experience of riding a mountain bike and are at a moderate to high fitness level.
Advanced Rides - €30
Advanced rides are for anyone with a high level of fitness and a moderate level of mountain bike experience. These rides are largely single track routes up high and therefore maximising the views of the area. The guides will coach you all the way up and down and help you make full use of the bike. Rides last for approximately 3 hours.

Heading south out of Nidri we take a shaded off-road climb to the mountain village of Fterno where we are rewarded by stunning views of the islands to the south. Through the village and continuing our ascent we reach a panoramic view point of the bay of Vliho, now looking north towards mainland Greece. Here we begin our descent on an ancient, rocky footpath (monopati) through a pine forest. This steep alpine-style descent is technical and exhilarating! Ending in the village of Haradiatika we then enjoy some local single track olive grove drops before stopping for refreshments and returning to Nidri. All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable ride for mountain bikers.
Mountain Village Trek

Taking in three traditional mountain villages, this ride is for people who want a heart-pumping ride with a bit of Greek culture thrown in. Snaking through the olive groves up to the hillside village of Haradiatika where you will begin the ascent on an off road track. This climb lasts an hour and a half but the views and sense of achievement are worth it. Past the village of Alatro, over the saddle between two peaks and into the village of Agias Ilias where you enter wine growing territory. These south-facing slopes are strewn with grape vines. A fast descent into the village of Sivros, where you will stop at a local café for refreshments and admire the views over the farming plains below. From here you take a shallow tarmac climb past the village of Vournikas before you join another off-road track which drops through the valley towards Vlicho from where you head home to Nidri after an action-packed Greek village tour.

This ride takes you south of Nidri through the fishing village of Vlicho before abandoning the main road in favour of an off-road track which climbs steadily to the village of Poros. From this track you will see the hamlet of Katohori tucked behind the hillside and stunning views back towards the coastal villages and ‘tranquil bay’. Leaving the cypress trees and vegetation behind, you will see the first glimpses of the southern part of Lefkas and views of the neighbouring islands of Ithaca and Kefalonia. Rejoining the main road for the last few kilometres into Poros village, where you will stop at a local café for refreshments. You take an off-road track out of the village for one final climb to the tip of the peninsula where the track begins its descent back down the other side of the mountain, overlooking the channel between Lefkas and Meganissi. The views from this peninsula are breathtaking and the descent fast and exhilarating.

You start this ride on tarmac and take a steady climb up to the traditional mountain village of Vafkeri, where halfway up you have the choice of continuing off road. Admiring the panoramic views, the elusive village eventually comes into sight and you make a well-deserved stop for coffee and cake. From the village you climb higher past the derelict monastery of Agia Assomati until you reach the summit with a panoramic view. You begin the 30-minute rugged descent, including numerous switchbacks, passing the villages of Neohori and Paleokatouna before bursting through the olive groves and back to Nidri.
Extreme Rides -from €35
The extreme rides are for experienced bikers with a high level of fitness. These rides power up high and descend fast, taking you to some of the most beautiful spots on the island with panoramic views.
The White Church

The white church can be seen perched on the tip of a peak above Nidri, one of the highest points on the island, the chapel of Saint Ilias stands at an altitude of just under 1000m. This full day ride is only for the brave, starting out at 8am and climbing for approximately 4 hours on a mixture of fire roads and single track, riders must have a high level of fitness and a lot of spirit. Pure mountain bike heaven, the effort is worth the rewards of the panoramic views from up high and the adrenaline-filled descent.
The Light House

The Lighthouse is located on the southern peninsula of Lefkas and with stunning panoramic views, this ride is breathtaking in every way. Starting in the south coast village of Vassiliki (transfer from Nidri provided), you take a short off-road climb onto the old provincial road to the hillside village of Agios Petros, where you stop in the square for coffee. From the village you take the main road for 2km before continuing the ascent on an off-road track heading south, with spectacular views of Vassiliki bay. Soon after passing the large antennae you come over the top of the ridge onto a plateau before the vast west coast horizon comes into view. The descent now begins on a loose rocky track which meets the tarmac road leading to the lighthouse. Arriving at your destination, you are rewarded with a chance to rest and admire the vistas across to the neighbouring islands of Kefalonia, Ithaca and Meganissi. Departing from the Lighthouse you face a continuous tarmac climb before heading east over the ridge on a mountain track which descends steeply into Vasiliki Bay.
