Ville & Casali

The following is an extract from an article about Hiera and Marettimo published in the May 2016 issue of Ville & Casali.

Riccardo discovered Marettimo by chance in 1992 while spending Easter in Sicily with his parents. During an impromptu visit to the island, he was charmed by the hospitality and friendliness of the island’s inhabitants. After that initial visit, his bond with the most westerly of the Egadi Islands grew on each successive visit until, a few years ago, he fulfilled his dream and bought an old fisherman's house, now completely restored and transformed into a beautiful holiday home.

Marettimo and the newly acquired house fascinated Riccardo's wife, Elke, who took over the renovation project and, with the collaboration of a group of Italian professionals, gave the house its new look. The end product is a subtle blend of contemporary aesthetics, practical considerations and island traditions that ensure Hiera remains at one with its surroundings.

Amongst the elements that stand out at Hiera are the bespoke furnishings and finishings, the superb workmanship and the use of local antiques and traditional ceramics from Marsala.

On this remote island, which the former president of the WWF, Fulco Pratesi called "the most beautiful island after Capri", Hiera is a uniquely refined and sophisticated property, where guests can relax in a tranquil oasis and discover the traditions that for centuries have marked the life of the island and its inhabitants.
