Foodie heaven in Sicily
Pasta, seafood, delicious desserts: Miranda Eason loosens her belt during a gourmet trip to Italy's gorgeous island getaway
"Gather a group of friends and take over La Favorita, a six-bedroom hunting lodge in Marsala, decorated in a luxuriously characterful style. Downstairs the enormous living rooms are hung with family trees, ancestral paintings and hunting trophies, while upstairs every bedroom has its own personality. One of the prettiest is decorated with brilliantly-coloured butterflies. The bathrooms are stocked with lovely Ortigia products that you won’t be able to resist popping in your case when you leave.
La Favorita is set in beautiful gardens dotted with olive and lemon trees and there’s a heated swimming pool that’s big enough to do lengths (essential to swim off all the food you’ll be eating!). Did we mention food? Set yourself up for the day with a buffet breakfast of pastries, bread, cheese, meats and fruit served in the dining room or outside on sunny mornings. You can choose from tempting lunch and dinner menus, all cooked by Daniela, La Favorita’s in-house cook. Our first-night dinner of ham-topped melon, fish couscous (a local speciality you need to order 24 hours in advance) and cassata, a deliciously-decadent sponge and ricotta dessert topped with multi coloured icing is up there with our best meals ever. And if you just have to be connected, even on holiday, there’s complimentary wifi throughout the house."
