When asked recently to list our Top 5 reasons for a holiday in Puglia, we had a problem: how to condense the region’s myriad charms into just a handful? 1. Villages, towns and citiessss

Puglia is peppered with a host of fascinating villages, towns and cities, whose picturesque, atmospheric old town centres harbour a treasure trove of architectural, cultural and gastronomic delights.

2. Marvellous masserie

3. Sandy beaches

What would a summer holiday be without a day or two on the beach? Puglia has some of the loveliest and longest expanses of sandy beach anywhere in Italy. Lapped by transparent turquoise waters and served by chic, laid-back lidos, they are hard to resist.

4. Tempting trulli

5. Food and wine

Puglia produces about 40% of Italy’s olive oil and more wine than any other Italian region. Its genuine, homely cuisine is based on flavourful ingredients that are overwhelmingly grown, produced, reared and fished locally.
